About this place
Sitting at the counter, you can watch each dish come together in plain view just across the pass. Located in Setagaya Ward's Ikejiri neighbourhood, Owan offers seasonal Japanese cuisine in a calm, unhurried atmosphere. Watching the kitchen team's brisk prep and cooking makes the arrival of every plate something to look forward to.
The dinner menu revolves around fish shipped directly from Kumamoto, including red sea bream, gurnard, and meji maguro (young Pacific bluefin tuna), presented alongside a varied array of small plates. Diners can graze on sashimi and seasonal bites before rounding off the meal with seasoned takikomi rice or hand-shaped onigiri. Because the kitchen shapes its offerings around daily market arrivals and the turning seasons, each visit brings a fresh perspective on seasonal cooking.
The drinks list provides versatile pairings, ranging from bottled Sapporo Lager "Akaboshi" to shochu labels such as Nakanaka, Sato, and Torikai, alongside KI NO BI craft gin and a selection of wines. Asking the staff for sake recommendations to match the flow of your meal makes for an enjoyable counter experience.
Operating hours run from 17:00 to 22:00, with Mondays closed. The quiet room allows for effortless conversation, offering booth seating and tatami spaces in the back in addition to the main counter. Booking ahead is recommended for dinner. Credit cards and PayPay are accepted for payment.
